NEED HELP? CHECK HERE FIRST!

It usually takes time for you to get a response from a messageboard post. And if you're really into the game, that time lag can be quite frustrating. Being stuck and not knowing where to go or what to do is always a problem. So, to save you all that frustration, here is a list of frequently asked questions that can help put you back on track right away.

WHICH SHOULD I GET? THE RED OR THE BLUE CART?

Both carts are identical in terms of gameplay. So which cart you get is really up to you. It is rumoured however, that the blue cart has rarer monsters while the red on has stronger ones. Maybe you can decide by checking out which carts your friends have because each cart contains only 139 kinds of pokemons and to be the World's Greatest Trainer, you need to get all 150. So you need the other color cart to trade with.

===========================================================================

CAN YOU TRADE MONSTERS BETWEEN A US CART AND A JAPANESE CART?

No! You'll corrupt your game because the the US version doesn't understand the Japanese characters and vice-versa. So be careful or else you'll have to start all over again.

===========================================================================

HOW DO I USE THE CUT TECHNIQUE?

You've gotten the cut technique but won't be able to use it till you learn how to. Visit Bill at the Sea Cottage. Help him reverse the transformation that he got himself into and he'll give you a ticket to S.S.Anne. Board the ship, fight all the trainers, go to the captain's room and rid him of his seasickness and he'll teach you how to use cut.

===========================================================================

HOW DO I USE THE FLASH TECHNIQUE?

To use the flash technique, you've got to use Diglett's Cave, get to the other side of Viridian Forest and meet with one of Professor Oak's Aides who will present you with HM 05 - the flash ability.

===========================================================================

WHERE DO I FIND FLY?

It is along route 12 near the cycling grounds. Cut the bush that's close to Snorlax and go to the house on the other side of the booth. It's there!

===========================================================================

HOW CAN I SWIM?

To swim, you must first get HM 03 (Surf) from the man in a Secret Treasure House deep inside on the far left of the Safari Game (we've included a map if you need one).

A swimming Pokemon (Lapras) can be got at Silph Company.

And the fastest way to get to the Secret Treasure House is to use your bicycle.

===========================================================================

WHERE CAN I GET STRENGTH?

Near the Secret Treasure House in the Safari Game is a pokeball that contains Gold Teeth. Take it to the Warden of the Safari Zone and he'll reward you with HM 04 (Strength). The first boulder that you get to move is the one in his house and for that, you'll receive a Rare Candy.

===========================================================================

I CAN'T SEEM TO GET ABRA, SO HOW DO I COMPLETE MY COLLECTION?

To most, Abra seems to be the hardest to catch because he disappears even before you can do anything. Best way to get him will be to use bind, hypno or constrict. In fact, anything that paralyses him before he gets away.

Drowzee at about level 20 should be able to put him to sleep. Or you could also wait till later and use stronger pokeballs.

Abra can also be traded for 180 coins at Celadon City's game corner so don't worry about it too much.

===========================================================================

SNORLAX BLOCKS MY WAY. HOW DO I WAKE HIM UP?

To wake him up, you need a PokeFlute that will be given to you by Mr. Fuji after you have saved him from the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town. Walk close to Snorlax, use the PokeFlute and he will awake. You can now fight him and capture him.

===========================================================================

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE TICKET TO S.S.ANNE AND OTHER THINGS WHICH ARE TOO VALUABLE TO TOSS? MY ITEM LIST IS SO FULL.

Try selling them in a mart or you could store them in your PC just in case you need to use any of them later. It's usually better to store them (afterall, it doesn't cost you anything to do that) instead of tossing them away.

===========================================================================

HOW DO I GET CHARMANDER, BULBASAUR AND SQUIRTLE?

The first three Pokemons from Professor Oak is only offered to you once and you can't get any of them later. Want one? You gotta trade for it.

===========================================================================

WHERE IS SANDSHREW?

He is only in the blue cart. He's rare there and he's not in the red cart. Sorry!

===========================================================================

WHERE IS MEOWTH IN THE RED VERSION?

There is no Meowth in the red cart. You got to trade for him.

===========================================================================

WHERE IS STARYU? AND HORSEA?

They can both be found in Seaform Islands.

===========================================================================

WHERE IS POLIWHIRL?

You got to fish for him by the river north of the Power Plant. You got to have the Super Pole though.

===========================================================================

WHERE IS MOLTRES?

Moltres is in Victory Road. In a cave on your way to the Pokemon League in Indigo Plateau.

===========================================================================

WHERE IS ZAPADOS?

It is right before you go into the Rock Tunnel via Cerulean City, at the Power Plant.

===========================================================================

WHERE IS ARTICUNO?

In Seaform Islands, closer toward the end.

===========================================================================

WHERE IS MEWTWO?

At Cerulean Cave. It is easiest caught if it is frozen or paralysed.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't really need a masterball for catching him.

===========================================================================

HOW CAN I GET MR.MIME?

Mr. Mime must be traded for. Go to the house that's past Diglett's Cave. There'll be someone there that will give him to you for an Abra.

===========================================================================

I NEED MONEY? HOW DO I GET MORE?

You can try selling off your stuff at the Mart or by using Meowth (or Mankey) and then giving him the attack called "Pay Day". This will give you coins that he finds after each battle.

Alternatively, you can also wait till the end of the game, and then keep going to the final area where you battled to become the Pokemon Champ. There, you can not only get more cash as you fight each leader again but also build up the levels of your other Pokemon so you have a complete collection of strong monsters.

===========================================================================

HOW DO I USE THE BADGES?

Badges will be needed to pass through the various zones for your final battle.

===========================================================================

I'M STUCK IN VICTORY ROAD. HOW DO I GET OUT?

The way through Victory Road is tedious. You have to push the boulders to the switches on the ground (the little circles) so that the obstacles get out of your way. The first and second floor is kinda straight forward but after you meet Moltres comes the tricky part.

Get Moltres and then walk back to your left back up the stairs you came down from. Walk right and you'll see a boulder that you have to bring back to the switch near the stairs. Got it?

Now go right again, then down and left across the platform where the girl is standing. Go back down, fight 2 others and continue on right till you get to a boulder that's next to a hole.

Push the boulder down and then jump down after it. Take this boulder to the switch on the left.

Go back right and up the platform to the stairs you couldn't get to before. Go down. And then up a couple of other stairs and you're out! Phew!

===========================================================================

INTERESTING POINTS TO NOTE...

- Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Nidorino and Nidorina evolve with Moonstones.

- Kadabra, Graveler, Machoke and Haunter only evolve when traded with someone else.

- Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres are rare pokemons so if you run into them, catch 'em.
